Turkey Point Beach
Turkey Point is located 150KM southwest of Toronto, along the coast of Lake Erie, and about 2 hours and a half car ride. With its laidback sweeping farmlands dotted along the Norfolk County highway, such a pleasant sight to see!
One of the landscapes we had passed by on the way to Turkey Point. Such gorgeous sweeping views (minus the cable of course!).
We arrived about 1:00 o’ clock in the afternoon and parking was almost full, although it was free (to promote Turkey Point as the parking warden had said).
The beach was packed, and people were observing physical distancing which was good. The best time to go is early in the morning, so you can stake your claim to a good spot on the beach. But make sure to bring umbrella, as it can get hot in the middle of the day, especially if shaded areas with trees are already taken.
The water was nice and cool—super refreshing! Sand was fine and soft. Be careful when walking, as there are exposed tree roots that are by the water and along the shore. The water is shallow for a good distance that’s why it is one of the best beaches for families with kids. But for safety precautions, always wear a PFD for swimmers that are not comfortable in the deep end—as there are NO LIFEGUARDS ON DUTY.
FOOD. You can bring your own, or just choose from one of the many restaurants located just at the back of the beach offers some goodies for everyone— ice cream will never be taken off the menu when you’re at beach town!
We ordered the regular beach fare—burgers and fish n’ chips. To be honest, it was pretty GOOD!
SINK. There is sink for hand washing, and it’s just outside the washroom. Luckily, outside the washroom!
HOME. We passed by this interesting farm on the way to TP. So naturally, on the way home we dropped by and see for ourselves what this farmland is! But got no clue even when I investigated it myself.
So, I asked a local what’s that full of fringes, interesting looking plant in the farm.
It was ASPARAGUS!
The harvest season of asparagus is between May-June when the stalks have sprouted. And farmers will leave the cut to sprout even more to this now thick fronds. This will allow for strong roots to develop before they cut it again to make way for new asparagus spears for early spring harvesting!
Glad to have learned where my favourite veggie comes from!
Would be nice to witness the harvesting.
