WASAGA BEACH

A quick getaway to Wasaga Beach, about an hour and a half north of Toronto.  Perfect place to bring family and friends for picnic and swimming.
  
You'll notice that food we brought are all store-bought, as we left Toronto in a hurry (about 5:00PM) because this quick road trip was not planned.  We just go when we feel like it, and I find that it is more feasible than planning a daytrip somewhere! LOL.

We were greeted with a country side that is super laidback, with lush greenery as far as the eye can see.  Definitely a welcome change to the fast-paced way of life of a Torontonian.

Lush greenery and that striking red barn, spells amazing countryside to me!




We always go to Niagara Falls, as it is a short drive as well from Toronto, and lots of attractions to keep the whole family entertained, but if you are looking for some rest and relaxation, Wasaga is the place to be!  Click Niagara Falls to see my video.


The beach was clean and kind of peaceful if you consider seagulls just chatting with each other once in a while.  This beach area we had picnic at was kind of private.  I'm really not sure how did it came to be that way-- the shore (the sandy walkway in photo) was privately owned, as there was a sign that said no parking, no standing, no etc.  Could it be that if backyard is facing a particular shore, that would be their domain? No clue.
But nonetheless we planted our picnic mat to where there was no sign of such, and we had a great time!




There are several ice cream parlour in the area, but we chose to get ours from Grandmas's. We ordered three kinds: lavender lemonade, rhum & raisin, and mango.  I was expecting a real churned cream- ice cream, but those had to do because it was a hot day! 
If only I own an ice cream parlor wherever part of the world that be, even in my dreams, I would sell real cream ice cream, just sayin'.

But all in all the roadtrip experience to Wasaga is awesome, and will defintely come back again!

Boarded on a 20-seater Dornier aircraft on a 3500 altitude for 75 minutes made my mom say: “Never board on a small aircraft again”. Hanlan's Point Nudist Beach Canada

Who would have thought that someone like me would go to such place? Funny, but my friend and I did, on one hot sunny day of 2008, everything went well according to plan. Toronto Island, where a complainer wouldn’t pass the b risk walkers’ standards to walk along the loooooong trail in a hot and sweaty summer day! So, renting a bike for $7 an hour was the only option as I categorized my friend as one bitchy complainer. We had lunch on one of the several empty park benches in a picnic area, hoping there would be no caterpillars accidentally dangling and clinging to its dear life from the big shadowy tree aside.  ~Toronto Island~ X-mark the spot. Bon Echo Provincial Park

We had an early start to our day on the way to Bon Echo Provincial Park,  so we captured this beautiful burst of sunshine- one of the perks of driving early aside from less traffic!  We rented a canoe to see the majestic hundred meter cliff,  Mazinaw Rock (Algonquin word for “writing”) with wonderful pictographs that dated hundred years ago by Indigenous people.  To rent a canoe during peak season, you have to line up early, as there are a lot of people waiting to rent one.  We came at 7:40AM and there were more than 20 people already in line. Canoe/ kayak is the only way to see the Mazinaw Rock up close.  The paddle is about 10-15 minutes, and water’s super calm when there are no boats crossing between the lower and upper Mazinaw lake.  One part of the huge rock formations, is a rock-climbers mecca, only registered climbers are allowed to climb the rock.  There were 5 walk-in campsites by the water, facing the Mazinaw Rock, and would be wonderful to be camping-in on one of those sites
